The Living Past

This is an illustration for a story called the Living Past, which is about a young girl’s plight to survive the Japanese invasion of the Philippines. I made roses with soldiers and bayonets as it’s thorns to show a painful past that is behind a now beautiful present day.

We spent a day in a little workshop trying out resin toy making for the first time. We came up with a little kokeshi likeness (for starters) and when I find time again I will try to paint over it with some pretty flowers and a cute face.
